Women & Their Work and Mujeres Artistas del Suroeste will present an exhibition of Chicana artists of Texas and the southwest in two Austin locations during the month of March. Voces de la Mujer will appear at the Benson Latin American Collection on the University of Texas campus and at Las Manitas Avenue Cafe. A reception for the exhibition will be held on March 8, International Women’s Day. The reception and exhibition are being held in conjunction with the national conference of the National Association for Chicano Studies, meeting in Austin, March 8-10.
Exhibition curated by Judith Baca of Los Angeles. Voces de la Mujer is an exhibition of paintings, drawings, and mixed-media work selected by Judith Baca of the Social and Political Arts Resource Center ih Los Angeles. Baca is known for her work designing and directing the Great Wall of Los Angeles Mural Project. Voces de la Mujer features the work of south Texas artists Alicia Arredondo, Santa Barraza, Nivia Gonzalez, Celia Munoz, Sylvia Orozco, Carmen Rodriguez, Tati Rubio, Marta Sanchez, and Terry Ybanez.
In addition, the work of eleven artists from California, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico will also be included. Baca to speak at National Association for Chicano Studies Conference. Judy Baca, juror of the exhibition, will speak on Saturday, March 10, as part of the NACS Conference.
