Artist Statement
“HOPE in the Midst of War, Death, and Destruction offers images that seek to unite the beauty of nature with the devastation of humanity and nature through war and pollution. This installation focuses on the daily, mundane activities of reading the newspaper, watching television, consuming and recycling. Each day we are presented with an incongruous mixture of toxic images depicting the horrors of war and pollution, and frivolous advertisements and commercials begging us to consume and “at least” recycle. The dichotomy of these multiple opposing thoughts helps to create a state of postmodern mental confusion with simultaneous disbelief, humor, horror, and guilt.”
