Mexican Gothic

Mexican Gothic, 2011
Oil, Whiteout, repurposed  antique postcard, frame
11.25  x 9.5 in.
from the collection of David Groch Tochman

This piece changes the race of Grant Wood’s “American Gothic” couple depicting a farmer holding a pitchfork standing beside a woman dressed in a colonial print apron evoking 19th-century Americana. Now, as a form of appropriation, Americana has become Latino.
